Course Aims

NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Dementia Care is a qualification designed to provide individuals with foundational knowledge and skills for effectively caring for and supporting individuals with dementia. Its purpose is to:

• Promote Understanding: This qualification aims to increase awareness and understanding of dementia, including its causes, symptoms, and the impact it has on individuals and their families. It helps individuals recognise the unique challenges faced by those living with dementia.

• Enhance Quality of Care: It equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with dementia.

• Improve Professional Practice: For individuals working in roles that involve direct care, such as caregivers, healthcare professionals, nursing assistants, or social workers, this qualification can serve as professional development.

• Promote Dignity and Respect: Dignity and respect are fundamental principles in dementia care. The qualification highlights the importance of upholding the dignity and autonomy of individuals with dementia.


Course Update

This course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy, under the Skill Up Programme. This course is a part of a suite of free online accredited courses that the College is offering to upskill, retrain and gain a qualification with no costs associated.


  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be a resident of Northern Ireland and eligible to work in the UK.
  • You will be required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to successfully complete the qualification.
