Course Content
This course provides an opportunity for aspiring and currently employed engineers or technicians to achieve a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification. You will receive training on industry standard and specialist equipment and software. The course consists of 8 units – 4 mandatory and 4 specialist units. Assessment is undertaken on a continuous basis through a combination of written assignments, practical assessments and tests.

- Engineering Maths
- Engineering Science
- Managing a Professional
- Engineering Project
Optional specialist units include (this may be subject to change):
- Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
- Mechanical Workshop Practices
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Mechanical Principles
- Instrumentation and Control Principles
Assessment Methods
Assessment for this programme is carried out on a continuous basis using a combination of written assignments, practical assessments and tests.
You will require one of the following:
- a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering (at least at grade MPP)
- 64 UCAS points to include one STEM subject
- other related STEM Level 3 qualification
Where students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director or Admissions. On completion of this course you will be qualified to apply for a range of technical positions in the mechanical, electronic and manufacturing sectors. You will also gain access to higher level academic courses such as the Higher National Diploma and university degrees.
