Course Content

The OCN NI Level 2 Award in Managing Challenging Behaviour in Children and Young People qualification has been designed to enable the learner to understand the reasons for and effects of challenging behaviour in children and young people, how challenging behaviour may be managed and what support is available.

The objectives of the qualification are to enable learners to:

  • Understand the effects of challenging behaviour in children and young people and how it may be managed.
  • Know how to seek support to deal with challenging behaviour in children and young people.
  • Be able to plan an activity that may minimise challenging behaviour.

Course Aims

The qualification is targeted at learners/practitioners who wish to or currently work with children and/or young people who exhibit challenging behaviour.

This course can go towards your staff’s continued professional development.  A certificate will be awarded at the end of the course and it is a recognised qualification from Open College Network NI.  OCN are a UK recognised awarding organisation based in Northern Ireland.  They are regulated by CCEA Regulation to develop and award regulated professional and technical (vocational) qualifications.


Course Update

This course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy, under the Skill Up Programme. This course is a part of a suite of free online accredited courses that the College is offering to upskill, retrain and gain a qualification with no costs associated.


  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be a resident of Northern Ireland and eligible to work in the UK.
  • You will be required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to successfully complete the qualification.
