Course Content

This course provides an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification. At Level 4 students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the construction and the built environment sector. This course is suitable for those who are already employed within the industry and for those who hope to pursue a career within the construction industry.

You will receive training on industry standard and specialist equipment and software. The course consists of 8 units.

This course is delivered part time usually over one day per week. 

Over the two years you will study 8 units and include units such as:

• Construction Design Project
• Construction Technology
• The Construction Environment
• Digital Applications for Construction Information
• Building Information Modelling
• Principles of Off-site Construction
• Alternative Sustainable Solutions in Construction

Assessment Methods

Assessment is undertaken on a continuous basis through a combination of written assignments, practical assessments, work-based learning and presentations.

Course Update

Campus location to be confirmed.  This course may be delivered at our Ballymena or Magherafelt campus. 

All applications must satisfy the general entry requirements as indicated below:

• Must hold a minimum grade C in GCSE English language and Mathematics (or equivalent); and
• At least one GCE A level pass together with three other GCSEs at Grades C or above; or
• A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Construction; or
• Another qualification deemed to be appropriate by the admissions tutor; or

Provide evidence of their ability to undertake the programme through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning. All APEL claims are made through the appropriate Course Director and the College Higher Education coordinator and there may be a requirement for the applicant to produce a portfolio of experiential evidence.

Where students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director or Admissions.
