Course Content

This course is ideal for:

  • Parents and guardians looking to enhance their parenting skills
  • Foster carers or those considering fostering/adoption
  • Childcare professionals and support workers
  • Anyone interested in child development and positive parenting/prospective students

This core objectives are to enhance the knowledge and abilities of parents and carers, enabling them to effectively support their children’s development and well-being.  You will cover:

  • Know the responsibilities of being a parent
  • Understand the importance of listening to children and giving them choices
  • Know about the major stages of a child’s development
  • Understand the right and needs of family members
  • Know how positive parenting builds self-esteem in children 

Course Aims

  • To help develop essential parenting techniques, understand child development, and improve family relationships. 

Course Update

This course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy, under the Skill Up Programme. This course is a part of a suite of free online accredited courses that the College is offering to upskill, retrain and gain a qualification with no costs associated.


  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be a resident of Northern Ireland and eligible to work in the UK.
  • You will be required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to successfully complete the qualification.
