Richard King
Job Title: Lecturer in Built Environment
Department: Advanced Technologies
Previous Roles/Industry Experience: I have gathered nearly 10 years of industry experience as a Building Surveyor working on buildings for Royal Mail and MOD (Ministry of Defence). I am former BTEC student at Coleraine Technical College (now known as Northern Regional College) and progressed to university to complete a Degree in Building Surveying before moving to my lecturer's role at the College.
Benefit(s) of learning from an industry expert: Experience always wins, we have insights into the industry and have more than just book knowledge, we have real life experiences with real world examples. We work with students to offer more than just book knowledge, we know what the industry is looking for and have links with local businesses as well which allow us to help students get experience in the working environment.
Tell us why students should study your course/subject area at Northern Regional College: BTEC is geared for any student who wants a career in construction. It will allow the student to go down more than one avenue, the course touches on a lot of areas. Lecturers work with individual students to help steer the student down the best route for them.
