Northern Regional College Students at Newtownabbey Campus Clean Up in Regional Finals

Welding students from Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus had a clean sweep in SkillWeld, the Northern Ireland regional heats of WorldSkills UK. Up against stiff competition from the College’s other campuses, the Newtownabbey welders filled the top three spots. They now have an anxious wait to see if they did enough to secure a place in the UK national finals in November.

Four Northern Regional College creative media students have qualified for the national finals of the prestigious Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) championship. ACP is a global competition to test skills on Adobe Creative Cloud applications that are used regularly within the creative industry. Thousands of students from across the UK and Ireland competed in the preliminary stages of the competition.
Continue ReadingAs part of its ongoing commitment to raise awareness about autism and promote social inclusion and autism acceptance, Northern Regional College invited internationally renowned autism advocate, Jude Morrow to deliver interactive training workshops to staff, students and external stakeholders. Jude, who is now in his ‘thirties, was diagnosed as autistic as an eleven year old. He is the founder of Neurodiversity Training International, an important autistic-lead training and consulting firm for global non-profits and Fortune 500 companies.

The training, which was developed by Dr Karen McCambridge, Health and Social Care Curriculum Area Manager at Northern Regional College, was offered to both Trust staff and volunteers in both healthcare and non-healthcare roles during May.

The Learning Endeavour Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals and their providers, by highlighting the power of learning to transform lives for the better.

Northern Regional College Science student, Georgia Rafferty, is one out of 5 students from UK who has been offered a scholarship to attend this year’s International Science School programme in Sydney, Australia. Georgia Rafferty, a 18-year-old student studying Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, applied for the science programme at the University of Sydney after receiving a communication from Nuffield Research Placement and decided to put her philosophy, ‘if you don’t apply, you never know’ to the test.
