Amy Morrow, a 19-year-old student studying Creative Media Practice at Northern Regional College, has quickly emerged as a leader and a champion for social justice and equality. The former Coleraine Grammar School student was elected as a class representative in her first year at the College, demonstrating her natural leadership abilities. She then applied for the role of LGTQIA officer, a position that she continues to hold, to advocate for the rights and equality of the College’s LGBTQIA+ community.

As part of the Department for the Economy’s ‘Bring IT On’ initiative, Northern Regional College welcomed pupils from local secondary schools to its Farm Lodge campus in Ballymena for an IT Open Day. Bring IT On was formed to address the skills shortage and employability issues within Northern Ireland’s IT sector to ensure that there is a pipeline of skilled talent fit for industry needs. The event, fully funded by ‘Bring IT On’ and organised by Northern Regional College’s IT lecturer Emma Butler, included a range of practical workshops led by IT sector experts as well current and former students.

Northern Regional College has launched the first accredited Level 2 and Level 3 courses in Hydrogen Applications and Technologies in the UK and Ireland. The OCN NI Level 3 Award in Hydrogen Applications and Technologies qualification aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in hydrogen-related industries such as energy generation, storage and distribution.

Higher education options at local further education colleges are now wider than ever before and provide an excellent route to promising careers and further study, according to the Principal and Chief Executive of Southern Regional College. Brian Doran was speaking to over 100 guests at an event in Southern Regional College Banbridge Campus as part of a wider campaign launched by the Department for the Economy this month to raise awareness of Level 4 and 5 qualifications at Northern Ireland’s six colleges.

Local post primary school principals had the opportunity to see Northern Regional College’s new campus in Coleraine this week. Principals and key staff members from several local post primary schools had the opportunity to learn about the campus plans, journey and progress from Project Director, Kieran Mooney, and Heron Bros, the building contractor. The campus development is currently under construction, but has now reached an exciting, advanced phase having passed the mid-point of the construction programme. The new campus will consolidate all teaching at the College’s former Coleraine and Ballymoney campuses onto one expanded site. Construction is progressing well and scheduled for completion for the start of the new 2024/25 academic year.
