Champion Gymnast gives Northern Regional College top marks for sports course

A sports student from Northern Regional College was named bar champion at a prestigious national gymnastics competition. Niamh McConnell from Coleraine, who is studying a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, came first on bars at the Women’s Artistic Classic Challenge Championships 2022 in Guildford, England.

With construction at the College’s new campuses in both Ballymena and Coleraine now well underway, the College has been named Project Team of the Year for Northern Ireland by the Government Project Delivery Profession (GPDP).

An aspiring young scientist from Whitehead said enrolling at Northern Regional College was ‘one of her best decisions ever'. Georgia Rafferty, who is now in the second year of a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Analytical and Forensic Science), said her experience of studying science at the College’s Newtownabbey campus has been really positive.

Now that he is a final year Higher Level Apprentice and in the third and final year of a Foundation Degree in Engineering at Northern Regional College, Ballymoney student Jack Edgar appreciates more than ever the value and importance of vocational training. After his GCSEs, Jack decided to go down the apprenticeship route, realising this was a way to get paid to learn new skills and get valuable work experience, both of which would improve his future employability.

The Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling is three years in total and includes placement opportunities for students to help build their knowledge of the sector.

Stephanie Brown-Crilly, an Access Diploma in Social Science student, has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Ballymena campus after deciding that the teaching style at the College suited her better than school. “I wanted to go to university, knowing I was meant to end up in a social science related role,” the Ballymena local said.
