The important role of curriculum and support staff was celebrated at Northern Regional College’s annual staff awards presentation. Congratulating all the award winners, as well as those nominated, Ken Nelson MBE, Chair of the College’s Governing Body said the awards recognised the outstanding contributions of individual staff and teams in support their colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.

For the second consecutive year, engineering students at the College secured top honours in the Industrial Robotics category. Charlie Carson and Jason Scott were gold medal winners while Ryan Crooks and Luke Cassidy were bronze medalists.

Northern Regional College has launched a ‘Death Positive Library’ in Ballymena. The initiative is one of the many positive outcomes of the College’s ongoing partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. It builds on the success of the ‘Read Yourself Well’ project, which aims to help people understand and manage their health and wellbeing through reading.

Northern Regional College graduate Sean Walls has been awarded Ulster University’s Widening Access Community Scholarship. The scholarship aims to increase access to higher education for new students entering undergraduate education. Attending St Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt until he completed his GCSEs, Sean, aged 19 said knew he wanted to complete an alternative route of study, but wasn’t sure what it was he wanted to specialise in.

Northern Regional College can help your dreams come true - just ask former student, Bridie O’Neill from Belfast. Thirty-six years old Bridie, who attended the College as a mature student, Maths and English classes at the College’s Newtownabbey campus and passed her GCSE exams in both subjects. This allowed her to progress and do an Access Diploma in Social Sciences at the College, which in turn helped her secure a place at Queen’s University Belfast to study midwifery - the next step on the journey to securing her dream job as a midwife.
