Having completed his initial training in Northern Regional College’s well equipped motor vehicle workshops, Portrush man Alastair Turkington is now a workshop controller, working at a Master Technician level with Edwin May Volkswagen Coleraine. Seven Northern Regional students have qualified for the national finals of this year’s WorldSkills UK competitions. The College will be represented in four skills areas: Industrial Robotics, CNC Milling, IT Support Technician and Joinery. They will compete for gold, silver and bronze at the finals, which will take place in venues across the UK, week commencing 14 November.

The manager of Ballymena United Football Club has encouraged school leavers to consider all available options before deciding their next step. Northern Regional College has ‘teamed up’ with the IFA premier league club to deliver a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development (Ballymena United Academy). The Academy combines a professional training programme with an accredited qualification to give talented young footballers an exciting opportunity to develop, both on and off the football pitch.

County Antrim teenager Steven Gough (16) is studying a carpentry traineeship at Northern Regional College in Ballymoney. As a trainee, he spends three days a week in college, where his time is divided between the classroom and the carpentry workshops as he works towards achieving accredited Level 2 qualifications.

After leaving school, Joanne Caskey from Portstewart enrolled at the Northern Regional College to study a Level 3 Diploma in Construction. She put her long-term career plans on hold to focus on her young family but subsequently returned to the College to do a Foundation Degree in Construction with Surveying, graduating with Distinction in 2020.
