Mechanical Manufacturing & Engineering builds the foundations for Larne graduate’s success

Larne’s John Irwin has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Farm Lodge Campus, in Ballymena, after completing a Foundation Degree in Mechanical Manufacturing & Engineering. Once he left school, John decided that an apprenticeship was the right route for him and, through an apprenticeship scheme, he was able to complete a Level 2 and Level 3 in Mechanical Manufacturing & Engineering.

Celine Taggart, a HNC Social and Community Work student, has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus after making the decision to change career after more than 20 years working in pharmacy. Reflecting on why she decided to change careers after 23 years, she said she had an “underlying passion” for working with and helping children.

Draperstown construction student James Flanagan has graduated from Northern Regional College. James, who studied a Foundation Degree in Construction Engineering with Surveying for three years after completing a Level 2 and Level 3 in Joinery before completing his Foundation Degree at the College, plans to go into the world of work “to really use the skills” he has gained during his studies.

Hannah Millar from Coleraine, a Higher Level Accountancy Apprentice with MCL InsureTech, was among the Northern Regional College students to celebrate at the College’s Higher Education graduation ceremony in Ballymena. Hannah works in the company’s accounts department and, while it took her a few years to find her employment niche, she really enjoys her current role.

After initially attending university upon completing his A-Levels, Andrew soon decided this wasn’t the right route for him at that time. Now studying Mechanical Engineering at Ulster University, he works for precast concrete manufacturer FP McCann.

Tara undertook the course after completing a gap year once she left school after her A-Levels. While reflecting on her pathway, she said: “I studied IT as an A-Level at school and this course reflected all the elements from that I enjoyed, as well as incorporating modules and topics I wanted to learn more about.”
