Northern Regional College sock it to bullies in support of Anti-Bullying Week

India Marks and Carly Weir, Performing Arts students at Northern Regional College’s Coleraine campus, stand out as they show off their odd socks in support of Anti-Bullying Week 2020. Odd Socks Day, organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, encourages people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality. Participants are invited to make a donation to support the organisation. Northern Regional College participates in Anti-Bullying Week 2020 each year to raise awareness of the damage that bullying can do.

Andrea Craig is originally from Bushmills and is now in the final year of an International Tourism Management degree at Liverpool John Moores University. Her decision to study at LJMU paid off handsomely when she was awarded a valuable Vice-Chancellor Scholarship worth £10,000.

Jacqui McAllister from Carnlough, who co-ordinates Health and Social Care courses at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, is shortlisted for the Tes Further Education (FE) Leader of the Year Award – the only individual from Northern Ireland to make the list. The Tes FE Awards are open to teachers, leaders, training providers and behind-the-scene teams.
Continue ReadingNorthern Regional College has gone smoke free – the first Further Education College in Northern Ireland and one of the few in the country to ban smoking completely. The smoke free policy, which was introduced at the start of the new academic year, means that smoking is no longer permitted anywhere inside College buildings or in the grounds. Previously smoking was only allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas.

Continue ReadingTour guiding students at Northern Regional College in Coleraine have created a virtual tour of the campus as a novel way to get around restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. A planned reunion for former staff and students at the Coleraine campus was one of the many events cancelled due to the lockdown. The reunion, scheduled for March 23 2020, had been billed as a nostalgic trip down memory lane and an opportunity for one last look around the old ‘tech’ buildings before the bulldozers moved in to clear the Union Street site to make way for a new state of the art campus.
