An Antrim bricklayer will represent Northern Regional College in Birmingham next week at the WorldSkills UK LIVE finals – the ‘Olympics of vocational skills’. Ashton Logan, who is now a part-time lecturer in bricklaying at the College’s Ballymena campus, competed in a gruelling series of qualifying rounds as a student to secure his place at the prestigious national finals.

An apprentice plumber from Ballymoney will represent Northern Regional College in Birmingham this week at the WorldSkills UK LIVE finals – the ‘Olympics’ of vocational skills. Abigail Reilly, a Level 3 apprentice plumber at the College in Ballymena, fought off stiff competition – and an all male field – in a series of inter-campus and regional qualifiers to secure her place at the prestigious national finals.

A Northern Regional College Carpentry and Joinery apprentice won a top European award crowning him Best Apprentice. Samuel Gilmore, based at the College’s Coleraine campus, travelled to Helsinki last week having reached the final of the Apprenticeship category at the European Alliance for Apprenticeship Awards. To come out on top, Samuel had to impress an expert panel of judges as well as securing the public vote.
Continue ReadingStaff and students at Northern Regional College’s Trostan Avenue Campus in Ballymena underwent CPR training in support of World Restart a Heart Day on 16 October. Training has been taking place across all of the College’s six campuses this week, to mark the day and to raise awareness. CPR zones were set up on each campus and trained staff were on hand to explain the importance of CPR and demonstrate the technique. Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are now installed in all College campuses, and demonstrations were carried out on how and why they are used.
