A Level 3 carpentry and joinery apprentices at the College’s Coleraine campus has been nominated for a top European award and he needs your help to get him over the line. Samuel Gilmore, former Northern Ireland Young Apprentice of the Year and Gold Medallist at Worldskills UK 2018, is through to the final two in the Apprenticeship category of the European Alliance for Apprenticeships Awards.

Three students from Northern Regional College have set off on an American adventure having secured highly coveted places on the British Council’s prestigious Study USA programme. Adam Pidgeon from Cullybackey, Tyson McKeown from Ballymena and Matthew Sterritt from Newtownabbey, who have been based at the College’s Ballymena campus, will spend the next academic year studying Business or STEM subjects at an American college.

On Song for a Successful Career

When he left school at 14, Robert Nutt from Cloughmills had no qualifications, no interest in learning, and absolutely no career plans. Fast forward 10 years and he is a confident and determined young man with a plan. The first phase of his plan was to get some formal qualifications. He studied GCSE Maths and English as a part-time student at Northern Regional College and passed both subjects with flying colours making him even more determined to succeed.

The Empower Project, which supports families coping with autism, dyslexia and dyspraxia in the Mid Ulster, Antrim and Newtownabbey areas, has extended its reach to allow more families to benefit from its invaluable service. In addition to the regular workshops delivered in partnership with Farranshane House in Antrim, other workshops will be piloted in several new locations outside the original funding area. These include Northern Regional College’s Trostan Avenue campus in Ballymena, as well as Rope Walk Community Centre in Coleraine; Primate Dixon Primary School in Coalisland; and Crumlin Integrated Primary School.

Louis Bell from Carrickfergus, a recent graduate of Northern Regional College’s Professional Cookery apprenticeship scheme delivered in partnership with Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort, has landed a dream job at the luxury resort. As an apprentice, Louis spent four days each week in the resort’s busy kitchens and one day a week studying at the College’s Ballymena campus.

James Blair, from Ballymena, has recently finished his Professional Cookery apprenticeship at Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort in partnership with Northern Regional College. Having secured full-time employment, James plans to continue working at the luxury resort, where he can continue to develop his skills and pursue his passion for food and cooking.
