Top Engineering Students Recognised

The achievements of the top performing Engineering students at Northern Regional College in Ballymena were recognised at the School of Engineering & Built Environment’s annual awards ceremony. Caleb Haines, from Coleraine, who completed a Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, was presented with the Dayle Smyth Endeavour award while Rafal Fila from Ballymena, won the Concord Cup for the best performing Level 3 student over the past two years. Rafal was also named FE Student of the Year.

Education is a privilege and every opportunity for learning and continuing professional development should be grasped to the full. Speaking to students and their guests at the College’s Student Awards ceremonies at the Magherafelt campus, Bill McCluggage, member of the College’s governing body, who presented the awards, reminded the audience that education was not so widely available for young people in other countries.

Simon Osborne Air Ambulance NI Appeal

Staff and students at the Magherafelt have got behind the Simon Osborne Air Ambulance NI Appeal to help raise money and awareness for the charity’s lifesaving work. Level 3 Engineering students at Magherafelt campus marked the end of the academic year with simulated car racing at Room2Race in Ballymoney with all proceeds from the event going to the charity.

Mature student, Sandra Streeter, who completed a Level 3 Diploma in Fashion Design at Northern Regional College was one of the Highest Achieving Students recognised at the College’s awards ceremonies this week. Originally from Colombia and now living in Broughshane, in County Antrim, Sandra, who is in her ‘forties, admitted she was apprehensive studying Fashion & Design as a mature student. As a university graduate with teaching experience in her native Colombia, she met the course entry requirements but was still concerned about her artistic ability.
