Continue ReadingA young Ballymena mum who struggled at school was one of the ‘Highest Achieving Students’ to be recognised at Northern Regional College’s student awards ceremonies this week. Lauren Kernohan (25) from Ballymena not only successfully completed Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery at the College in Ballymena but finished top of her class. Lauren, who has two children aged 3 and 8, has just taken up a new position as cook in a Galgorm nursing home.
Continue ReadingLisa Burns, Student Finance Manager at Northern Regional College, won a prestigious award at the recent National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA) Conference. Lisa was awarded ‘Student Money Adviser of the Year’ at a ceremony in Manchester. The awards are open to all advisers and fund administrator working to support further and higher education students in the UK. The award was made to an individual adviser who has excelled in his/her field and made a contribution to students individually or to student money advice more generally that is not only over and above the call of duty but also in line with the NASMA Values.

Tadas Dobrovlskis from Antrim, a trainee welder at the Newtownabbey campus, beat off the challenge from other competitors to get the highest score on the day. Kyle Wilson and Oran Gallagher, trainees at NWRC, filled second and third spots respectively.

Originally from Poland, Rafal (21) has been living in Northern Ireland for the past 12 years. He attended the College’s Farm Lodge campus and achieved the highest grade possible in his BTEC Level 3 Engineering Diploma finishing with a D*D*D* grade profile.

Caleb Haines, from Coleraine, who completed a Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, was presented with the Dayle Smyth Endeavour award while Rafal Fila from Ballymena, won the Concord Cup for the best performing Level 3 student over the past two years. Rafal was also named FE Student of the Year.
