A Sports student at Northern Regional College gained first-hand experience of the benefits of video analysis in elite sport during a recent industry placement with the Irish Football Association (IFA). Jordan Pattison from Ballymena is doing a Foundation Degree in Sport, Exercise & Fitness at the College’s Coleraine campus. He travelled to the Canary Islands with the Northern Ireland Under 17 Women’s Football squad as part of their preparation for the UEFA European Championship Elite Stage Qualifiers.

Congratulations to Farm Lodge student Conór O’Kane on his new role as Northern Ireland Champion for AccessAble, an online resource which gives detailed access guides to sites in the UK, to help those with disabilities to plan ahead. Conór, who has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), is doing Computerised Bookkeeping at the College, is already a bit of a legend in and around his native Portglenone. He’s set to become even better known now that he’s started a weekly blog to highlight some of the issues facing people with disabilities.

The Empower Project has launched an ambitious new programme to support families in Mid Ulster & Antrim & Newtownabbey Council areas with children who are on the autism spectrum, are dyslexic or dyspraxic. Between Easter and the end of June, the planned programme of 46 different activities will include creative play and storytelling sessions, as well as workshops to address some areas of concern for families, such as ASD and Anger, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Toileting and Food and Mood.

Eight Northern Regional College Engineering and Computing students were honoured with awards at the 2019 Career Ready Student Graduations. The students were among over 100 young people from all over Northern Ireland who attended the Career Ready Graduation Ceremony in Belfast. The ceremony marks a major milestone in their Career Ready journey, which prepares them for the world of work by linking them with local employers. This year, through the Career Ready Programme, some of the College’s Engineering and Computing students at the Ballymena and Magherafelt campuses secured valuable paid industrial experience, thanks to the College’s links with 40 different companies.
