Monday

Male holding an award

Applications are invited for the prestigious JP McManus Scholarship scheme which offers students financial support of £5,500 each year for the duration of their undergraduate degree. Hurry, the clock is ticking as applications close at 4pm on Tuesday, August 30. A total of 25 scholarships will be awarded across the two categories: Further Education (FE) college students and grant-aided post-primary school students.

Funded by Irish philanthropist JP McManus, the scholarships are designed to help high achieving students from low-income families continue their education and can be used towards university fees and other expenses

Over the years, JP McManus Scholarships have helped many students pursue their dream of going to university.

Former Northern Regional College students to receive the awards are Caitlin Allen from Ballymena and Jack Bradshaw, from Greenisland. Both were recipients in 2019.

Caitlin completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism at the College’s Coleraine campus, and achieved triple distinction, the equivalent academic standard of three As at A level.

Caitlin said she was “delighted” to have been selected to receive the prestigious award. The award eased her financial worries when she went to Southampton Solent University to study Festival and Event Management.

Jack, who was a student at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, completed a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media before progressing to do a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Interactive Media. He also achieved triple distinction and was offered a place on the four-year animation degree programme at Ulster University.

To be eligible for an award, applicants must have been in receipt of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) at the time of their examinations and are due to start an undergraduate degree at university in September/ October 2022.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 4.00 pm on Tuesday 30 August 2022.
