Art students at Northern Regional College maintain 100% success rate

Tuesday

Students who completed the Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice at Northern Regional College have maintained the course’s 100% success rate. For the past six years, anyone who completed the course at the College in Ballymena secured up to five university offers with most of them getting an offer from their first choice university.

Art lecturer Jeanette Lammey who co-ordinates the Foundation Diploma, said she was delighted that the Class of 2020 had all managed to do so well, particularly in light of the COVID-19 challenges.

“Because of the lockdown, our students had to complete their final major projects for the traditional End of Year showcase event at home without access to the specialist support and equipment they would normally have in College but despite the challenges they faced, they all did really well.

“We have students going to Belfast School of Art at Ulster University to study Architecture, Fine Art and Animation; two students are off to Northumbria, one to study Graphic Design, the other Fine Art; while others are taking up places in Liverpool and at Uclan (University of Central Lancashire).

“They pulled out all the stops to win these places and we wish them the very best in their future careers in Art & Design.”

There are still some places available on the new Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice for students wanting to build a good portfolio for 2021/21 entry to Art & Design university courses.

Jeanette continued: “The competition for places at good universities is fierce, but the Foundation Diploma the course will guide you through how to build your portfolio, along with each individual element that you are assessed on (UCAS statement, portfolio including sketchbooks, digital portfolio and interview).

“These are the tangible benefits of the course but I believe that getting the support to enable you to have confidence in your own ability is the real game changer.”
