Northern Regional College’s long established and mutually beneficial relationships and collaboration with local employers and industry partners helps improve students’ employability. Engineering student Rachel McKerr from Ballinderry, who was awarded an Ulster University Foundation Degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the College’s HE graduation ceremonies, is now employed as a service engineer with Scott Medical Ltd in Lisburn.

Rachel explained that the College’s excellent relationships with the business community helps students secure valuable work placements: “As part of the Foundation Degree, I did my placement with Hutchinson Engineering in Kilrea which was a great learning experience and helped me to secure my current position with Scott Medical.”

She added that she would have no hesitation recommending Northern Regional College and the Foundation Degree in Engineering as a pathway to a career as an engineer.

“I started the course in September 2019 before the pandemic, so we had about six months in College before lockdown. It was tough having to change to online learning during Covid but our lecturers were very supportive,” she said.

In addition to the Foundation Degree in Engineering, Northern Regional College offers Foundation degrees in other subject areas including Business Management, Computing, Early Childhood Studies, Construction, Health & Social Care, Integrative Counselling Practice, Sports Science, Coaching & Fitness and Supply Chain & Logistics.
