Tara McClean, a Level 5 Creative Media, Web & App Development student, has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus. Tara undertook the course after completing a gap year once she left school after her A-Levels. While reflecting on her pathway, she said: “I studied IT as an A-Level at school and this course reflected all the elements from that I enjoyed, as well as incorporating modules and topics I wanted to learn more about.”

When asked about what she enjoyed most about the course, Tara said it was the opportunities to build her portfolio that excited her most.

“The course provided me with the opportunity to work alongside local businesses to help them in levelling up their online presence. I really enjoyed the social media aspect and being able to turn a vision into a reality.

“I was lucky enough for my work to be featured on some local businesses social media accounts including Cleanse, a hand sanitising company, and a crisp company called Shindigs. It was amazing to see my work online and see how the public interacted with my creations.”

Not only did Tara value the well-rounded learning experience the college was able to offer, but she also valued the continuous support from lecturers from the College.

“The lecturers at Northern Regional College were incredibly supportive, and in particular, Darren McKinley was very helpful during my time.”

When asked what she was looking forward to most after graduation, Tara has plans on how she is going to put all she had learned into practice.

“At the moment, I have been working on a freelance basis and have been able to help a family friend market her business online, this has included helping her with social media, her website and IT work.”
