Essential Skills Hubs Introduced all Northern Regional College campuses

Monday

Northern Regional College has introduced ‘drop in’ Essential Skills Hubs at all campuses to offer students additional support in English and Maths. Donal MacAuley, Acting Curriculum Area Manager for Essential Skills explains the thinking behind the exciting initiative: “The pandemic has been very disruptive to learning at all levels and some of our students have been affected more than others. We have found that some of them, including those who have already achieved their GCSE Maths and English, are struggling to complete their coursework.”

“To address this, we have created a series of Essential Skills Learning Hubs. These will be located in the library at each campus and qualified AoN/Communications (Maths/English) lecturers will be on hand to offer help.”

Encouraging students to make the most of the Hubs, Donal continued: “I realise that it can be difficult to speak up in class so, if you’re struggling with a concept or are looking to improve your written work and get higher grades, come along to the Hub at your campus where you will get ‘one to one’ support.

“The Hubs will continue to operate on all campuses until the end of May but do not leave it until then to look for help. Take advantage of the support being offered now and it could make a big difference to your grades in June.”

Dates and times of the Hub sessions at each campus is available on Canvas.
