Marketing graduate Mark McNally from Toomebridge was at a career crossroad. He was in his early ‘forties with years’ experience working in the cut and thrust of business but was looking for a change. He decided to explore what was on offer at his local FE College and, having discussed his options with staff, opted to study a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling and progressed to a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling.

Following his graduation and equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience gained during his time at the College, Mark and his business partner launched Bremar Training. The Belfast based company offers training, consultancy, and counselling services to an ever-growing number of clients.

Mark spoke of why he chose to study at Northern Regional College:

“Having previously benefitted from counselling myself, I decided to undertake this course at Northern Regional College to give me the opportunity to pursue a new career path which actually offered me a great deal of personal development as well.”

Mark also recognised his lecturers for their ongoing support and encouragement.

“Balancing part-time study with full-time work is challenging but it is so worthwhile and I couldn’t recommend it enough. The dedication and support of all my lecturers was so important to my development as a student and inspired me to keep going. They really do go above and beyond for their students to help them achieve their full potential.”

Mark says of his future career:

“Since completing my studies at Northern Regional College, I have established Bremar Training with my business partner which offer community focussed training and consultancy services.  We have developed a range of programmes around resilience, health and well-being and suicide awareness which we deliver to sports clubs, community organisations, businesses and schools.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support I got from my lecturers at Northern Regional College. I always encourage people to explore the professional development opportunities available at their local college. I know I’m glad I did.”
