James Taylor from Cullybackey, whose son Jackson was awarded a Foundation Degree in Computing at Northern Regional College’s annual Higher Education graduation ceremonies, said the course helped Jackson secure employment with a Belfast software company.

Prior to enrolling on the Foundation Degree programme, Jackson completed a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT at the College’s Ballymena campus. The Level 3 course, which is an academic equivalent of three A levels, was Jackson’s stepping stone to the Foundation Degree and full-time employment.

James said Jackson, who had previously received an award for being the top achieving student in his class, worked hard complete Foundation degree and, although he had to cope with some challenges, thanks to his own hard work and College lecturers and support staff, he managed to overcome these challenges.

“We are very proud of Jackson and really appreciate of the way staff recognised his potential and supported him to achieve his goal.”

James added that Jackson’s positive experience at the College had encouraged his younger brother, David, to attend the College. David is doing a motor vehicle course here now and I couldn’t recommend the College enough.”
