“I always wanted to live my passion”

Wednesday

Female in graduation gown

Carolyn McLaughlin, a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling Practice student, has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Ballymena campus after making the decision to change career after 20 years working in finance. Reflecting on why she decided to change careers, the Ballymena local decided that she wanted to help others, saying she “wanted to develop and fulfil a career that put others first.”

Outlining her experience at the College, Carolyn found the lecturers at Northern Regional College extremely encouraging and helpful, assisting her with expert advice.

“I initially completed a Level 4 Certificate in Counselling course at the College, but I wasn’t sure what route to follow afterwards.

“The personal aspect of the discipline really interested me, and I knew I wanted to continue to progress, but it was the career advice from the lecturers at Northern Regional College that really inspired me to take the next step.”

Carolyn said she loved the course especially modules that have led her to where she works today including the cognitive behavioural therapy module and humanistic module.

“It feels like I have been on a full-circle journey, I have developed professionally and personally and now work every day with real life clients, making a difference with the knowledge I have gained.

“Graduating today is a great opportunity to catch-up with all the friends I have made along the way, each and every one of us have gone on to do amazing things.

“I now work as a counsellor in a GP surgery, but clients can also come to see my privately. It’s been amazing, I now live my passion. It’s a course I would not hesitate to recommend.”
