Local support worker qualifies for new job thanks to Northern Regional College

Monday

Female student in graduation gown

Natasha Lyttle from Ballymoney who was awarded a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Children Care Learning and Development at Northern Regional College’s annual Higher Education graduation ceremony held in The Great Hall at Galgorm Resort, says doing the Diploma helped her secure a new job. When she started the course at the College’s Ballymoney campus, Natasha was working with Dervock Community Playgroup. With new legislation coming into effect, she realised that if she was to progress to the role of deputy leader of the playgroup, she would need a Level 5 qualification.

After completing her GCSEs at Ballymoney High School, Natasha attended Northern Regional College to do a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care before progressing to complete the Level 3 Diploma.

She describes her experience of the course: “I enjoyed the course but it can sometimes be difficult to get the right balance. I was the youngest in the class but I was able to learn from the others who have a lot more experience than myself.”

Since completing the course, Natasha has secured a new job as a support worker with Fairways Independent Living Initiative.

“I have no doubt that having the Level 5 Certificate will benefit my career. I certainly helped me get the job I’m currently in,” she said.

Northern Regional College offers a range of full-time and part-time courses in Children’s Care Learning and Development from Level 2 up to Level 5.
