Among those involved in the development of the course were Logistics UK Northern Ireland, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, DFDS, Lynas Foods, McBurney Transport, Manfreight Ltd, Henderson Group, Ryobi, Caterpillar and Woodside.
With over £8 billion in annual external sales to Great Britain, logistics is integral to Northern Ireland’s economy and its importance will continue to grow due to the interconnectedness of supply chains across the UK.
Professor Terri Scott, Principal and Chief Executive of Northern Regional College, said the increased awareness of the importance of the supply chain and logistics meant it was an opportune time to introduce the new HLA.
“The HLA in Supply Chain & Logistics will be a game changer for anyone interested in pursuing a career in this sector. Northern Regional College is delighted to be able to partner with local stakeholders to provide real-world knowledge and expertise to the apprentices as they look to further their career.”
The new HLA has been warmly welcomed by companies working in the supply chain and logistics sector.
Nick McCullough, Managing Director, DFDS said it would help narrow the skills gap in what is a very diverse industry with endless opportunities.
“There is a significant shortage of skilled people in our industry so this new HLA is very welcome as we are continually growing and entering new markets across Europe and beyond. We look forward to supporting the ongoing development of this HLA and, most of all, welcoming skilled people into our business in the years to come.”
Tania Barker, Director of Education and Professional Standards for the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, said: “Logistics, transport and supply chain operations maintain a country’s economic integrity; the sustainable movement of goods provides an ever-important link to the global market, underpinning business activity in supporting and allowing for a thriving economy. Professionals in the sector innovative in a fast-paced and influential environment in jobs that enable the products and services utilised by customers and businesses alike to be created, distributed and utilised.”
