Kyona Kelly has graduated from Northern Regional College’s Ballymena campus after completing a Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care. When discussing why she decided to study at the College, Kyona saw it as a gateway to attend university and “build a foundation of knowledge” for herself after finishing school.

She explained more: “Northern Regional College was a way for me to progress to university to study social work and has proven to be the perfect stepping-stone for me. I was able to gain independence while studying, but still had the option to go to my tutors for support when I needed it.

“The College presented me with a great way for me to adapt to the workload that would follow attending university. I think I would have found it harder to adapt if I attended university straight after school.”

Now studying Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast, Kyona wants to keep her options open for the future.

“I have been able to identify various interests I have across the social work spectrum, including adult, children and correctional behaviour.

“I definitely want to go on to become a social worker and make a difference to the lives of others.”

Northern Regional College offers a range of full time and part time higher education courses.

Qualifications include Higher Level Apprenticeships (HLAs), Foundation Degrees, Higher National Certificates/Diplomas and Degrees. The College also offers an Access to University course which provides mature students with an alternative progression route to higher education.
