Planning Applications Submitted For College Redevelopment

Tuesday

Northern Regional College has submitted planning applications for its ambitious £84 million proposals to redevelop its current sites in Union Street, Coleraine and Farm Lodge, Ballymena. The applications for the redevelopment of the College’s current campuses in Coleraine and Ballymena were submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Council and Mid and East Antrim Council respectively. Both applications were submitted on January 24 2018.

The College’s redevelopment will have a significant impact on the local economy. Construction jobs will be created during the building phase and, on completion of the building work, the provision of cutting-edge facilities at both campuses will help attract students. This in turn will increase the regional skills base with the potential to attract further investment to the region.

In advance of submitting the planning applications, the College embarked on a pre- planning public consultation process with displays of the proposed designs available in campus receptions.

Mel Higgins, Northern Regional College Chief Operating Officer said the public consultation process was to give residents and businesses an opportunity to see the proposals and provide feedback.

“This is to ensure that the local community will derive maximum benefit from our proposals. The feedback has been very positive and we are now looking forward to the next exciting phase of development at Northern Regional College,” he said.

Funded by the Department for the Economy, the two new state of the art campuses are scheduled for completion by summer 2022. Leading Northern Ireland based architectural and civil engineering design consultancy, McAdam Design, has developed exciting proposals for both sites.
