Renowned artist paints a bright future for Northern Regional College students

Monday

Art and Design students at Northern Regional College got a fascinating insight into the potential career opportunities ahead of them when renowned artist Jason Millar visted the College. Belfast-based Jason is widely recognised as one of Ireland’s most fashionable and collectable contemporary artists with work included in private and corporate collections worldwide. He also counts golfers Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke, as well as celebrity chef Jamie Oliver amongst his notable buyers.

To highlight the diversity of opportunities in the visual arts, Jason provided students with an overview of his work with fashion designers, including one of his most recent collaborative projects with local brand ‘Titanic Demin’ to create bespoke designs for handbags, jackets, jeans and soft furnishings.

Art and Design lecturer Paul Wilson said that the students at the College’s Trostan Avenue campus in Ballymena were both inspired and motivated by the visit:

“Jason is always keen to share his passion for art so we were delighted to have him visit the College as his energy and enthusiasm for the visual arts are infectious.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to hear from someone so successful in the industry, and gave them a real insight into the career opportunities that are available.

“By engaging with our students, Jason has left them feeling encouraged and inspired with an appetite for success.”

Northern Regional College offers a range of art courses from part-time Leisure Art to Level 3 and Foundation degree programmes. Two new full time art courses introduced this year at the College’s Trostan Avenue campus in Ballymena include Level 3 Fashion with Art & Design and Level 3 Industrial Art & Design.
