She decided that working alongside the community was not only something she was good at, but something she wanted to pursue full-time.
Outlining her experience at the College, Khanyisa found the lecturers at Northern Regional College extremely encouraging and helpful.
She noted that the support of both her lecturers was the highlight of her time while studying at the College.
“Being given the opportunity to pursue this course was a miracle, but only possible due to the support of both Jacqui McAllister and Siobhan McEldowney. I simply can’t say enough good things about the College’s lecturers.
“They encouraged our class to support each other and develop true friendships. We all speak most days despite studying online due to Covid-19. Today is the first time many of us will meet. It’s very exciting.”
As a mum of three, Khanyisa is proud of the example she has set for her children.
“I am now working as a senior support worker and a social work assistant. I really enjoy working in this field. It’s amazing and fills me with joy and fulfilment every day.
“As a mother, I think it’s important to set an example for my children. The support that Northern Regional College offered me was incredible and made my journey possible. They really focus on seeing their students succeed and will support whatever their circumstances.”
Even though she has graduated, Khanyisa’s time at Northern Regional College is not over, as she is now studying a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services at the Newtownabbey campus.
