Ballycastle’s Lydia Fletcher demonstrated her IT skills to secure her place in the WorldSkills UK national finals. Lydia, who is studying Information Technology and Computing at Northern Regional College will compete in the IT Solutions for Business category. WorldSkills UK is a competition-based development programme designed to enhance practical skills and knowledge taught on vocational courses by assessing an individual’s employability attributes in a competitive environment.

Performing Arts and Music students at Northern Regional College make a welcome return to Rosepark Fark in Ballymoney this week with their own unique spin on ‘Wizard of Oz’. ‘Upside Down Wizard of Oz’ will be the students’ fifth year down at the farm and their reputation for putting on an entertaining event to showcase their talent has grown year on year. With the 2020 performance cancelled due to Covid, tickets for this year’s Halloween ‘spooktacular’, were snapped up as soon as they went on sale. The event, which runs from Thursday, October 28 to Sunday, October 31, from 12 midday to 4 pm each day is completely sold out.

Northern Regional College has announced the appointment of Mel Higgins as its new Principal and Chief Executive. Mr Higgins, who has held the role of Chief Operating Officer at Northern Regional College for the past six years, secured a BTEC National Diploma in Business & Finance at the College’s Magherafelt campus before progressing to Higher Education and embarking on a career as a chartered accountant. In recent months he has served as Acting Principal and Chief Executive at the College.

Causeway Chamber and Coleraine Town Team have welcomed the development of a new campus at Union Street in Coleraine for Northern Regional College, fully funded by the Department for the Economy as part of a wider £85 million capital investment programme. In keeping with the ethos of Northern Regional College, the proposed new campus in Coleraine will be an open and accessible space for students and staff and will provide opportunities for extensive engagement with the community.
