Suzanne Sloane successfully balanced the challenges of a teaching career with part-time study at Northern Regional College and intends coming back for more when the new academic year gets underway in September. Having completed the Ulster University validated Level 4 Counselling Studies at the College’s Ballymena campus, Suzanne plans to transition to the Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling Practice to continue her studies at the College.

Ballymoney teenager Daniel Strong found that attending an open day at Northern Regional College was his first step to getting on track to attend university. The Northern Regional College student is passionate about sports. When he discovered the opportunities for sports students at the College, he decided not to go down the A-level path like his older brother Adam, but to do a vocational course at the College’s Coleraine campus.

Northern Regional College student Alphie Clarke has secured a place on the prestigious Study USA programme. He jets off to the USA this week on the first leg of his year long adventure in the States. Alphie (21) from Ballymoney, who completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Electronic and Electrical Engineering before progressing to do a Foundation Degree at the College in Ballymena, will spend the next year at La Roche University in Pennsylvania.

The lockdown was a challenge for many people but Kate McGrath from Moneymore, a mature student at Northern Regional College, decided to make the most of the unexpected time at home to get additional qualifications. A mother of three teenagers, Kate, who is a History undergraduate at Ulster University, set herself the challenge of passing GCSE English, Maths and Biology – which she did with flying colours! This was in addition to coping with home schooling, her university coursework and working part-time as a caretaker in a local primary school.

The Science Summer School is a series of free practical science activities at the College’s Coleraine campus. The interactive programme will be delivered over four two-day sessions between Monday 23 August and Friday 03 September.

An aspiring young web designer from Bangor who made it through the national qualifier round of the prestigious World Skills Web Design competition earlier this month, had more to celebrate this week. Jonathon Wilsdon completed a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media (Interactive Media) with the highest possible grade to secure his place at Ulster University to do a BDes (Hons) degree in Interaction Design.
