Northern Regional College has achieved the Carers’ Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support accreditation as an acknowledgement of the College’s good practise and commitment to student carers. Head of Student Services, Stephen McCartney, the College’s designated Carers’ Lead, said the accreditation is recognition of the important contribution that carers make to society.

Economy Minister Diane Dodds has launched a new Supply Chain and Logistics course for Higher Level Apprentices at Northern Regional College. The course, funded by the Department for the Economy, is the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland and will ensure a pipeline of skilled talent flows to this important sector.

A Newtownabbey student who attends Northern Regional College has been highly commended in the Further Education Student of the Year category at the OCN NI Learner Endeavour Awards 2021. Savanna is doing Route 2 Work, the first in a series of four inclusive learning programmes offered by the College. She was nominated by her lecturer, Rhonda Brady who said she impressed, not only by Savanna’s motivation and enthusiasm, but her positive attitude and willingness to help others.

Northern Regional College has ‘teamed up’ with IFA premier league club Ballymena United to offer an innovative opportunity to talented young footballers who wish to combine their skills on the pitch with their studies. The new BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development (Ballymena United Academy) will combine a professional football training programme with an accredited qualification, giving skilled players a unique opportunity to develop both on and off the field.

Engineering students at Northern Regional College have embarked on a journey which could bring them all the way to the WorldSkills UK National finals later this year. For the first time ever, Northern Ireland students had an opportunity to compete in the Industrial Robotics category of UKSkills and all six teams in the competition were comprised of engineering students from the College’s Ballymena campus. A total of twelve students from a variety of engineering courses, including Level 3 Extended Diploma, Higher Level Apprenticeship and Foundation Degree, participated in the first stage of the competition where they had to perform an offline programming task set and assessed by FANUC Ltd.
