Travel and Tourism students at Northern Regional College got a sneak preview of the build-up to the British Golf Open when they visited Royal Portrush Golf Club this week. First year Level 3 Travel and Tourism Diploma students at Coleraine and Ballymena campuses are celebrating a 100 % success rate in their WorldHost training. During their visit to the historic club, students were presented with their WorldHost certificates and Golf Pro, Gary McNeill spoke to them of some of the challenges and opportunities facing the club as it prepares to host one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.

SUCCESS FOR COLERAINE IT STUDENT

Jonathan Scott, a Level 3 IT student at the Coleraine campus, has qualified for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) national finals and a chance to compete for a coveted place in the World Championships. The MOS Championship is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint applications.

A Sports student at Northern Regional College gained first-hand experience of the benefits of video analysis in elite sport during a recent industry placement with the Irish Football Association (IFA). Jordan Pattison from Ballymena is doing a Foundation Degree in Sport, Exercise & Fitness at the College’s Coleraine campus. He travelled to the Canary Islands with the Northern Ireland Under 17 Women’s Football squad as part of their preparation for the UEFA European Championship Elite Stage Qualifiers.

Congratulations to Farm Lodge student Conór O’Kane on his new role as Northern Ireland Champion for AccessAble, an online resource which gives detailed access guides to sites in the UK, to help those with disabilities to plan ahead. Conór, who has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), is doing Computerised Bookkeeping at the College, is already a bit of a legend in and around his native Portglenone. He’s set to become even better known now that he’s started a weekly blog to highlight some of the issues facing people with disabilities.

Northern Regional College’s Under 19 football team recently emerged victorious from the Copa Costa Brava elite youth football championship. The international tournament, hosted in Lloret De Mar, Spain, attracts the world’s best in young footballing talent.
