Northern Regional College Provides Skills and Confidence, says TrustFord technician

Coleraine man Jamie Hutchinson, who is employed as a technician by TrustFord Coleraine Car and Transit centre, said his time at Northern Regional College gave him the skills and confidence needed to pursue a career as a car mechanic. After leaving school, Jamie did Level 1 Motor Vehicle Maintenance course at the College’s Coleraine campus. He progressed to Level 2 and then completed a Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance Apprenticeship with TrustFord.

The official Construction Notice has been issued to permit construction works to commence on building a new campus for the College at Farm Lodge. This will replace the existing Farm Lodge and Trostan Avenue campuses, consolidating the two sites into one.

The opportunity to get practical ‘hands-on’ experience of creative media and industry standard equipment has proved valuable for TV and Film students at Northern Regional College. Amy Morrow, Samuel Lee Holmes and Matthew McClure have just completed their first year of a Level 3 Extended Diploma in TV and Film (Creative Practice) at the College’s Coleraine campus; a two-year vocational course is the academic equivalent of 3 A-levels.

Having completed his initial training in Northern Regional College’s well equipped motor vehicle workshops, Portrush man Alastair Turkington is now a workshop controller, working at a Master Technician level with Edwin May Volkswagen Coleraine. After studying A-level Geography, English Literature and Biology, Alastair decided to follow his heart, commenting: “When I was younger, my initial plan was to study and become a meteorologist, so I had completed my A-levels in preparation for going to university.
