Two Northern Regional College apprentices were among the star performers at SkillBuild NI finals hosted by CITB NI (Construction Industry Training Board) at its Nutt’s Corner training facility. Conor Dallas (24) from Loughgiel, who is a first-year bench joinery apprentice with Mivan and a student at the College’s Ballymoney campus, scooped the top award in the joinery. Bailey Gibson (19) from Larne, a second-year carpentry apprentice with Kudos and a student at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, won the carpentry section.

Three teams representing Northern Regional College competed in the ‘qualifier stage’ of the Industrial Robotics category in a bid to secure a coveted place in the WorldSkills UK national finals later this year. To reach the qualifier stage, teams had to successfully complete the challenges of the ‘passive stage’ of the competition held last month at the College’s Ballymena campus.

Northern Regional College and Queen’s University Belfast have come up with an innovative way to improve efficiencies and quality in manual and automated welding. The Robot Assisted Welding project aims to give fabrication businesses a competitive edge by introducing collaborative robots as relatively low-cost welding aids to assist with the assembly and positioning of components during the welding processes.

Senior managers from Northern Regional College joined staff from the other five Further Education (FE) Colleges for a fund-raising cycle across Northern Ireland to raise awareness and much needed funds for Air Ambulance NI. The charity cycle entitled ‘Further Education 400’ saw the teams cycle 400 miles as they criss-crossed their way around Northern Ireland to call at all 27 FE campuses.

Northern Regional College has launched an exciting initiative to help aspiring young sportsmen and women fulfil their potential and pursue a career as professional athletes. The College’s unique Football Development Programme will be offered to all students at the Coleraine campus who are enrolled on the Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Sport and Exercise Sciences and Sports Coaching and Development, as well as students doing a Foundation Degree in Sports Science, Coaching and Fitness.
