  • You will complete the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma and the Level 2 award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities as part of the full course in a weekly class and will also receive one to one support from an assessor.

  • Upon completing this qualification, you may pursue employment as a GDC-registered dental nurse.

Dental Nurses are highly skilled professionals who deliver essential clinical and administrative support to dental practitioners and patients. In this role, individuals engage in various aspects of patient care, including sterilising and preparing instruments, mixing dental materials, and acquiring the knowledge, skills, and behaviours necessary to provide chairside assistance. This support ensures seamless collaboration between the dental clinician and the patient. The apprenticeship qualification comprehensively covers the clinical responsibilities and duties performed by Dental Nurses.

  • Oral and general health
  • Endodontic treatments
  • Prosthetic treatments
  • Radiation and radiography
  • Periodontal disease and cavity restoration
  • Health and safety
  • Extractions and minor oral surgery
  • Management of oral health diseases and dental anatomy, oral health assessments and treatment planning

Apprenticeships NI Level 3 is open to employees aged 16+ or those about to take up permanent paid employment within a Dental Practice, based in Northern Ireland-based company, and be contracted to work a minimum of 21 hours per week.

Applicants must have 4 GCSEs including English and Maths (or Essential Skills equivalent).  If you do not have a Level 2 Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy or equivalent this will be a mandatory element of the course.

Course Fees

No fees.

For most students, full-time Further Education courses at Level 1-3, including Apprenticeships, have no course fees.  


Level 1-3 Further Education (full-time)

  • Aged 16-18: no tuition fees apply.  
  • Aged 19:24: If you have already achieved a full Level 3 qualification, fees will apply.  
  • Aged 25 or over: Tuition fees will apply unless you are in receipt of a Further Education (FE) grant. Admission to full-time Further Education courses for applicants aged 25+ will be considered on an individual basis at the College’s discretion.

Level 3 Access Courses (full-time)

  • If you are in receipt of a Further Education (FE) grant, no fees apply.
  • If you are aged 19 or over and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 3 A-Levels), fees will apply.
