Spencer, who is studying a Level 3 Plumbing Apprenticeship with Northern Regional College while working with Equans, received the award after being recognised for his exceptional trade skills, strong teamwork and commitment to community engagement.
The award is a major achievement, with Spencer competing against dozens of apprentices from across Northern Ireland and mainland UK in a highly competitive category.
Following his regional success, Spencer will now progress to the next stage of the competition in Leeds this July, where he will compete against winners from the South and Central regions for the chance to be named overall UK Apprentice of the Year.
Alongside his technical ability and dedication to his apprenticeship, Spencer was also praised for his contribution outside of the workplace. This has included taking part in local community clean-up days and serving as a guest speaker at CITB NI’s “Build Your Career” Bootcamp, where he spoke to more than 200 students about his apprenticeship journey.
Peter Lynch, Plumbing Lecturer and Course Coordinator at Northern Regional College, said, “Spencer’s success is very well deserved and everyone at Northern Regional College is extremely proud of him. He has shown outstanding commitment to his apprenticeship, both in developing his trade skills and in the positive way he represents himself, the College and Equans. His willingness to support community initiatives and speak to other young people about the benefits of apprenticeships shows real maturity and leadership.
Peter added, “To be recognised as North Region Apprentice of the Year is a fantastic achievement, especially against such strong competition. We wish Spencer every success as he goes forward to compete for the overall UK title in Leeds this summer.”
Spencer’s achievement highlights the strength of Northern Regional College’s apprenticeship provision and the important role apprenticeships play in developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
